‘Tis the Season for Dinner Parties

This time of year when the weather turns cold, we tend to spend our time indoors celebrating with festive cocktails and desserts. Hosting a dinner party is the perfect way to celebrate with family and friends! There are all different formats to fit your style, see below for a few ideas.

1. Progressive Dinner Party
Also known as a round-robin, it is a dinner party in which each succeeding course is prepared and eaten at the residences of different hosts. Essentially, it is a potluck dinner, with travel involved. For example, have cocktails at the neighbors down the hall and entrees at your place.

An alternative to traveling is to eat each course in a different dining area within a single home.  For example, you could have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the living room, main entrée in the dining room and dessert on the patio around a fire pit and heated lamps.

2. Game Night
A little competition is always fun!  Have dinner and then let the games begin. Poker, Pictionary or Charades. Whatever your flavor is go all out and may the best team win!

3. Bible Study
Organize a bible study, pick a theme for the night and ask each person to share their favorite verses and what they mean to them. Alternatively, pick a book from the Bible and take turns reading out loud. Lead a discussion afterwards over dessert and coffee.

4. Murder Mystery
Always a good time and allows you to step into a new character for a little role play! There is an array of themed games that you can buy on the internet, high school reunion or holiday themed. It will be a night full of good laughs and great pictures!

5. Backyard Garden Party
Being outdoors in the fresh air is always good for the soul, even if it is winter. Hosting a party outside can lead to many different themes, campfire with s’mores, white lights and champagne or a Hawaiian luau.
